ICC Announce Reserve Days For Knock Out Matches Of T20 World Cup
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the addition of reserve days for the T20 World Cup semi-finals and finals in 2024. The ICC announced that these alternate days will be used if the matches are not finished on the scheduled dates.
The T20 World Cup is planned to take place in the United States and the Caribbean Islands from June 1 to June 30. The group stage will have 20 teams competing against one another. The ICC placed the teams into four groups, each with five teams.
After the group round, the top two teams from each group advance to the Super 8s phase. Teams will be drawn into two groups of four, with the top two from each moving on to the knockout stage. The semifinals and final will take place during the knockout stage.
Will there be reserve days for the T20 World Cup semifinals and final? ICC conveys an update.
The ICC confirmed at its board meeting in Dubai last month that reserve days will be scheduled for the T20 World Cup’s semi-finals and final.
Furthermore, in both the group stage and the Super Eight series, the team batting second must bowl at least five overs for the match to be considered legal. However, in the knockout stages, at least ten overs must be bowled to establish a match.
Stop Clock Rule To Be Implemented During T20 World Cup 2024
The ICC has accepted the permanent utilization of the stop clock rule in both ODI and T20Is. They also approved the playing conditions for the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and laid out the qualification process for the 2026 event.
The Chief Executives’ Committee analyzed the results of the stop-clock trial, which revealed a considerable reduction of approximately 20 minutes each ODI match. Recognizing the good influence on game tempo, the CEC approved the mandatory use of a stop clock in all men’s ODI and T20I matches between Full Members beginning June 1, 2024, including the T20 World Cup 2024.
Umpires will set a 60-second timer after each over, requiring the fielding team to begin the next over within this time frame. When the fielding side violates the regulation for the third time, the on-field umpire will issue two warnings before imposing a five-run penalty.
T20 World Cup 2024 playing conditions
The ICC also confirmed the ICC World Cup 2024 playing requirements, stating that a minimum of 5 overs must be bowled to the side batting second to constitute a game in the group and Super Eight stages. However, in knockout matches, the number of minimum overs is increased to 10.
